His collaborations with artists like Young Thug, Lil Skies, and Jazeek, including contributing to Jazeek's latest number one album in Germany with the track "Real G," have cemented his status as a rising star in international urban music. In our interview we talked about about the production of "Real G" and Palazzo showed us his drum processing tricks and the plugins he used to achieve the clear and punchy drum sound.
"I tend to use this plugin by default with the limiter disengaged. This makes my drums heavier and controls the transients, in addition to some light stereo widening."
"If I need more from my drums, I try the Blackbox. This gives me even and odd-numbered harmonics, resulting in higher perceived loudness. I also experiment with the mix knob if it's too much."
"To make my drums as loud as possible, I use some light limiting to shape the transient of my kick."
"I use this for some light tape saturation to bring out more harmonics from my drums."
"I like to use the big bottoms preset for some added harmonics. This creates a psychoacoustic effect that helps the 808 cut through the mix better. It also makes your bass audible on small speakers such as phones or laptops."
"This is my go-to plugin for every bass sound that is not an 808. It saturates it, makes it fatter, and gives it presence. Here, I like to use the Aggressive Bass preset."
"Great for a little saturation. I adjust the heat depending on how gritty I want my hi-hats. Don't forget to turn the noise down!"
"Sometimes the drums tend to fight with the vocal in the center of the mix. It's helpful to move some of the drums to the sides. By using Pancake, I can not only move the hi-hats out of the way but also give the drums more movement."
