The legendary Korg Triton is a workstation featuring HI-synthesis and digital sampling, considered the direct successor of the Korg Trinity line. The original version, known as the "Classic," was released in 1999 with a 61-key keyboard and 32MB of Read-Only Memory (ROM). Due to its advanced sound processing, the Triton line became a staple in music production during the 00s, heard on countless hit records.
Notably, hip-hop producers like The Neptunes, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, and Scott Storch extensively used the Triton and its library presets in their productions. In 2019, Korg released a plugin version of the Triton, containing all the famous sounds. As a kid of the 90s, those sounds shaped my youth! That's why I've collected some of the most famous Triton presets in this article for you to check out. Note that those default sounds and its effects were tweaked and often times sampled and pitched with an Ensoniq ASR-10, a AKAI MPC or other samplers. Don't expect the presets to sound just exactly like in the songs.
The Neptunes are one of the most famous users of the Triton. The producer and songwriter duo, consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, formed in Virginia Beach in 1992. In the 00s they wrote and produced countless hit records featuring the Triton for artists like Jay-Z, Ludacris, T.I., Nelly, Clipse, Justin Timberlake and a lot more. Timothy Zachery Mosley known as Timbaland is another Hip Hop legend from Virginia. Famous for his percussion patterns and rhythmic style he has influenced the sound of 00s Hip Hop and pop records like no one other. Timbaland worked with nearly everybody under the sun including Jay-Z, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls and a whole lot more. Legend Dr. Dre, born as Andre Romell Young in Compton, California is one of the most successful producers and business men in today's music world. Under his wings big artists like Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Eminem or Kendrick Lamar became international successful. Dre has a technical focus and adopted new technology early on. That's why it is no surprise that a Triton sound is the main element of Eminem's Grammy winning single "The Real Slim Shady" in 2000, just a year after the Triton release.
